Finally, the magazine is finished. After weeks of of shutting myself from the universe (now I know the office-home-office routine DOES exists), I can now breathe a bit and do a lot more things other than obsess about Computerworld. Like write on this awful blog. Or listen more intently to music and know more about the bands I’m listening to (Mice Parade, at the moment).
Or watch more DVDs like this one I picked up in the office a while ago starring Elizabeth Cuthbert. I don’t have any clue what it’s all about but the title The Girl Next Door tells me it should be a teen flick. An artist in the office, who is younger by at least 5 years, tells me it’s good. I’m inclined to believe. It’s a start.
Though I confess my guilty pleasure of watching shows like The OC. (Hands down, I’ll pick Summer. The other girl is just too complicated for me). Or my fascination for Katie Holmes, which led me to watching Dawson’s Creek thinking all the while how pitiful that Dawson character is. Pacey’s Creek doesn’t have as much recall, right? Or major flashback to Doogie Howser who, I believe, will most likely be a poster boy for blogging. If his show actually lasted until today.
In my defense (although why should I?), what fascinates me about these American teen shows is how fluid the script is. Which is practically non-existent in this age of Philippine television with shitty sitcoms with equally shitty actors. And yes, that guy in The OC is obsessed with indie music. That beats watching American Idol – especially that horrendous judge wearing tight-fitting shirts – any time of day. Thanks Paula, but I would rather watch Oprah.
Obrigado Saudade. In Portuguese, it means “Thank you, nostalgia (or lovesickness or homesickness)”.

I don't deny the fact that I envy Singapore because the best bands around get to hold concerts there. While Singaporeans get the chance to see Coldplay, the less fortunate among us in Manila get a more than enough dose of washed up artists/bands as if they are STILL famous. The guy from Fra Lippo Lippi (minus his partner…wait, there's only the two of them, right) just had a concert recently. So did the Backstreet Boys not too long ago (wait, are they still around?!)
Not only concerts, though. Art and music festivals are a regular thing in Singapore, thanks to the government which must've recognize that indeed, art is food for the workaholic Singaporean soul. My hungry (and envious) writer's soul will try to get its own dose within the next few days as I haul my butt off there for the Singapore Arts Fest.
After a quick look online, I'm looking forward to see some bands, of course. Good thing there are gigs. I'm looking out for this Chinese post-punk band called Re-Tros (short for Re-establishing the Rights of Statue). I read Brian Eno raved about them after a visit to China.

It's going to be a few weeks of not enough sleep from hereon.
Costa Rica is trailing Germany by one point in what is a great opening match. Great, meaning a lot of goals scored; in this case 3-2. (The Germans just scored another goal.)
Quick analogy: Soccer (or futbol, as they so lovingly spell it) is a lot more flair than simple accuracy.Whereas in basketball (or basketbol, if there ever was a Filipino such translation) you aim straight into a small target, in football the goal is a lot larger alright but the best-looking goals are those that don't go in straight but curves enough to avoid the goalie. Best seen in slow motion.
So it's a fact that Dirk Nowitzki prefers to shoot it straight. The Mavs won Game 1, which I didn't see because I don't have an excuse to come in for work late this morning to catch the game live.
Every Brazil match should be fun to watch. Too bad, I don't think there's no one in the office (of course, this is basketball-crazy Pilipins) I can engage in some futbol chatter as much as how many 3-pointers Dirk made.

During recent trip to Hainan Island in mainland China, I found myself in a supermarket struggling to read labels. Here's one thing I found. Whatever those are, I'm not eager to give it a taste.
More stuff here.

I love and hate blogging at the same time.
I've made countless attempts at blogging that somehow ended up as testaments to my ineptness. Or better yet, pathetic obsessive-complusiveness. The other day, I wasted almost an hour trying to figure out how I can change my blog's URL to match its title. I did make another blog with that SAME address.
I ended up deleting both. I don't even want to into the painful details.
So now I find myself making yet another one. I should save myself the "love-hate" explanation and start blogging. I hope I don't click on the "delete blog" button ever again.
Here it goes.
